QC111 Optical Procurement Requirements
1.
Cleanliness
requirements
Optics shall meet cleanliness requirements at delivery
as specified. These requirements shall
be defined by performance specification, quantitative criteria (molecular and
particulate) and/or qualitative inspection.
2.
Containers
Transportation and storage containers for
optics shall:

Be fabricated
from materials that will not outgas under ambient conditions
·
Have provisions
for backfill and/or purge with nitrogen
·
Constructed of
materials that do not generate particles
·
Meet cleanliness
requirements equal to that of the delivered optic (surface to surface
exposure).
The containers shall bear adequate warning labels in
accordance with the Contractor’s practices. In addition, the following message
shall be placed on the containers:
NOT TO BE OPENED BY
SHIPPING/RECEIVING
TO BE OPENED IN CLEANROOM
ENVIRONMENT ONLY
TO BE OPENED ONLY IN THE
PRESENCE OF COGNIZANT ENGINEER OR DESIGNEE
3.
Handling
Handling procedures shall be developed to avoid damage
to the optics or contact that will expose or transfer contaminants to the
optical surface. Exposure to ambient air
conditions must be limited to specified controlled environments.
Contractor will provide any handling or cleaning procedures
that are specific for this hardware.
4.
Backfill and/or Purge
Backfill the container with GN2.
5.
Marking
Marking on optics as required shall use approved
marking inks or labels and application processes. Care shall be exercised to avoid marking
materials migration or plume effects.
6.
Optical Witness
Samples (OWS)/Witness Plate or Sampling
Optical Witness Samples shall be included as specified
by the Contract/Purchase Order. These
samples will be as flight-like as possible and handled in the same manner. In the event OWS are not required, the Contractor
shall a witness table to assist in verification of the estimated cleanliness of
the delivered optics.
